An Embarrassment to the Crest

The final whistle of the Round of 16 game blew a little less than an hour ago by the time I started writing this and the more I think about it, the angrier I become so this will likely be an emotional post. I reached my boiling point when Lukaku slotted home Belgium’s fourth goal of the night and my wife said to me, “Well what the hell was he doing there?” and I just had to sit there with no answer for her. What the hell were we doing there and the rest of the game? I am going to break down some of this game, but the performance at the World Cup overall below and give my biased and very emotional thoughts. Round of 32 Quick Preview

Hello everyone. I have been on a vacation so haven’t done updates from the second two days of group matches but here is a quick round of 32 preview.  South Africa vs Canada I am writing this as this game is going on and it has been a great game. I think South Africa will end up winning the game but it will be won in extra time. These two teams had similar group stage beginnings, both not winning their first games, but Canada fizzled out after a big win over Qatar where South Africa picked up momentum with a win over South Korea. Update: I was wrong and Canada scored late in regular time to win. Netherlands vs Morocco This might be one of the best games of the tournament between arguably two favorites coming into the tournament. Both teams finished on seven points in the group stage but Morocco got the short end of the stick by having a lesser goal difference than Brazil. World Cup Group Stage Opening Games Recap

Hello everyone. Today I am going to give a recap on all of the first matches from the group stage. There have been a lot of exciting games so I am excited to go over them all! Group A Mexico vs South Africa 2-0 Mexico got the exact start they wanted to as hosts, dominating for most of the game. They got a goal early from Julian Quinones with a shot that honestly should have been saved from the South African keeper. South Africa stayed in the game for a while after this, with mistakes in the attacking third leading to only two shots on goal. The second half started out awful, however, as Sphephelo Sithole was sent off in the 49th minute. Raul Jimenez scored his first ever goal at the World Cup in the 67th minute, highlighting his comeback from a broken skull that nearly killed him a few years ago. With the addition of some third place finishers qualifying for the knockout rounds, I had to look through some websites to see where each team would end up. Group L England → Qualified as UEFA group winner, ranked 4th in the FIFA rankings Croatia → Qualified as UEFA group winner, ranked 11th in the FIFA rankings Ghana → Qualified as CAF group winner, ranked 73rd in the FIFA rankings Panama → Qualified as a CONCACAF group winner, ranked 34th in the FIFA rankings England Team Preview England qualified easily for the 2026 World Cup, going undefeated in their group and having a goal differential of +22.
